The overarching goals of the Arkansas Herpetological Atlas (AHA) are to develop, organize, and provide a comprehensive warehouse of verifiable documented occurrences of amphibians and reptiles in Arkansas for the purposes of conservation, research, and education.
The AHA was initiated in early 2010 with the acquisition of a database of known museum voucher records that was produced through an Arkansas Game & Fish Commission grant contract. The first public release was in 2012, as an early skeletal draft. The 2019 public release represents the greatest undertaking in cataloging and mapping the herpetofauna of Arkansas since The Amphibians and Reptiles of Arkansas (Trauth et al. 2004).
The AHA continues to be a work-in-progress and it will be contingent upon the wider herpetological community to offer feedback and support toward improving the project.
